Chattanooga: Unum names Farrell to head investments

Breege A. Farrell, a senior managing director for Allstate Insurance Co. in Northbrook, Ill., has been named chief investment officer for Unum Corp., in Chattanooga.

She succeeds David Fussell, who retired from Unum in 2008, and has served in a consulting capacity as interim chief investment officer since 2010.

As senior vice president in charge of Unum's investments, Farrell will be responsible for designing and overseeing Unum's investment and asset management strategies, including maintaining a balanced portfolio of investments to optimize investment performance within the company's risk management guidelines.

Farrell previously worked as an analyst with Nomura Corporate Research and Asset Management Inc. and several investment banks, including JP Morgan, UBS and Kidder Peabody. From 1986 to 1993, she worked in the investment division of Prudential Insurance Co.

Farrell, a certified financial analyst, is a graduate of Emory University and New York University's Stern School of Business.

"Breege brings to Unum impressive leadership credentials and a strong knowledge of investments in the financial services industry," said Rick McKenny, executive vice president and chief financial officer for Unum.
