Dog park reps trying to dig up donations

Community donations are being sought for amenities for the dog park in Collegedale.

"We need to raise money to afford a water fountain and some benches inside the park," said LaDonna Kolling, who has spearheaded park efforts since its inception late last year. "It's a great marketing opportunity - we know people walk on the Greenway down there, plus the people coming into the park."

Various donation levels will be recognized on a sign at the park entrance. The sign is being ordered April 30, so those who want their information included must contact Kolling by then.

The dual water fountain, which would be capable of serving humans and all-size dogs, and three benches cost around $4,000 combined. Kolling said it's a small price to pay to either market a business or provide for the community.

She said "there are people there constantly."

"Dogs are becoming members of our families," she said. "We have Imagination Station for our people children; now we have the dog park for our dog children. They have a dog park downtown, one in Hixson and one in Red Bank, and now we have one in Collegedale. It brings one over to our side of the world."

Kolling said the recreation and interaction the single space provides for both large and small dogs isn't the only benefit.

"It's just amazing the people contact you get over there," she said. "I've actually seen one girl get a job from the contact she made meeting somebody there."

To donate make a check payable to Amy Zark Rescue & Adoption and mail to 5026 Hunter Village Drive, Ooltewah, TN 37363. A receipt will be returned so that donations are tax-deductible. To learn more visit www.collegedaledogpark.com.
