Iconic Br'er Rabbit statue stolen from Georgia museum

EATONTON, Ga. - Authorities say the iconic Br'er Rabbit statue has been stolen from the grounds of the Uncle Remus Museum in the central Georgia town of Eatonton.

Putnam County Sheriff Howard R. Sills tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the 3-foot-tall iron statue was taken Sunday night.

The sheriff says the statue is a much-loved landmark in the county, and authorities would very much like to have it back.

Br'er rabbit is a character in the collection of Uncle Remus stories by author Joel Chandler Harris, an Eatonton native who worked for the Atlanta Constitution.
