The treasurer of the Kilpatrick Volunteer Fire Department in Alabama has been arrested after an investigation revealed department funds have been mishandled since 2008, according to DeKalb County Sheriff's Office.

Vickie Lynese McSpadden, 39, faces a charge of theft of property, first degree. Investigators believe thousands of dollars have been stolen.

McSpadden was arrested Thursday and posted a $15,000 bond.

The investigation is ongoing with possibly more charges coming. Additional charges will be presented to the Grand Jury.

The investigation began in late November after Chief Deputy Michael Edmondson received information regarding the misuse of a charge account by members of the fire department. Once Edmondson and Deputy State Fire Marshal Ray Cumby began investigating, they learned the activity was more extensive than what was initially reported.
