A 34-year-old man has been charged with arson in connection with a Sunday morning fire.

Terry Scott has been charged with aggravated arson after a fire in a duplex at 1900 Foust Street, said Bruce Garner, spokesman for the Chattanooga Fire Department.

Scott is currently in Hamilton County Jail, Garner said.

Chattanooga firefighters were called to the fire about 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Garner said. The fire was located in a bedroom in the bottom unit of the two-story building and firefighters discovered a mattress had been set on fire.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze quickly and no one was in the apartment at the time, he said.

As a precaution, firefighters evacuated the resident in the second-story apartment unit, he said.
