An Alabama man who was shot during a robbery over the weekend is still in critical condition.
While police charged a woman they believe shot Boyce Batey on Saturday, another person is in custody possibly related to the shooting, authorities said.
Batey, 74, of Whiton, was at a gas station in downtown Geraldine on Saturday morning when he was approached by Patty Westbrook, 37, for a ride, said DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris in a news release.
Batey agreed, but he was eventually shot as he was being robbed at the intersection of County Roads 36 and 246, Harris said.
Westbrook, of Guntersville, Ala., later was seen driving Batey's vehicle when she was arrested on suspicion of shoplifting, he said. She was then charged with attempted murder and her bond was set at $250,000, Harris said.
Batey was taken to a local hospital but later airlifted to the University of Alabama hospital for emergency surgery, Harris said. He is still in the surgical intensive care unit.
Meanwhile, Kenneth Chamblee, 53, of Albertville, Ala., was arrested and is now being questioned in relation to this incident, Harris said.
