Guilty verdict in Memphis human trafficking trial

MEMPHIS - A federal jury in Memphis has convicted a man on charges he used violent beatings to run a human sex trafficking ring.

The Department of Justice says Terrence "T-Rex" Yarbrough was found guilty Wednesday on sex trafficking charges. He faces 15 years to life in prison at sentencing early next year.

Witnesses testified that Yarbrough enticed vulnerable women as young as 15 into prostitution with false promises of love, family and prosperity. Victims testified about beatings if they disobeyed or tried to leave Yarbrough.

One victim testified that Yarbrough forced her to engage in prostitution and beat her while pregnant with his child.

The Commercial Appeal reports that the ring spanned from 2006 to 2009 and included prostitution trips to New Orleans, Miami, Las Vegas, Atlanta and Tunica, Miss.
