VW sales to set record in 2012

Volkswagen AG reported today that global sales of all its brands already have passed last year's record mark with one month still to go.

"More vehicles were delivered in 11 months than during the whole of last year," said Group Board Member for Sales Christian Klingler in a statement.

Sales rose 10.4 percent to 8.29 million vehicles in the first 11 months of the year compared to 2011, the German automaker with a production plant in Chattanooga reported.

However, Klingler said that despite this year's new delivery record, the company is already preparing for a challenging year in 2013.

He cited the continuing difficult situation in some European markets.

VW Group sales in the United States, which include the VW brand as well as Audi, Porsche and others, are up 33.9 percent over the first 11 months of the year to 534,000, the company said.
