A fire official in Cleveland says smoking in bed might have started a fatal fire.

Police responded to a report of fire at an apartment building Thursday night and kicked in a door, but were forced back by smoke, according to the Cleveland Daily Banner.

When firefighters arrived and surpassed the flames, they found a body in a bed.

Cleveland Fire Department investigator Ben Atchley identified the victim as 59-year-old Larry Wright, who lived in the apartment.

Atchley said Friday morning that the fire began in the bed and was possibly caused by the victim smoking. An autopsy will be performed.
