Fred Richard SwainRAINSVILLE, Ala. - Two officers who investigated complaints of chemical odors coming from a Rainsville residence located three, one-pot methamphetamine labs and arrested a local man Wednesday, DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris said.
In a news release, Sheriff Harris said sheriff's office Capt. Stanley Hollingsworth and Rainsville Police Department Chief Charles Center went to the home on County Road 447 and spoke with the resident, 47-year-old Fred Richard Swain.
Swain gave them permission to search an outbuilding, where they found the labs and many items related to meth manufacturing, Harris said.
The officers arrested Swain and charged him with manufacturing a controlled substance second degree, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, the sheriff said.
Drug Task Force Deputy Commander Jeff Bain said that, based on the supplies in the outbuilding, the suspect could have produced about 12 grams of meth with a total street value of about $1,200.
Swain is in custody at the DeKalb County Jail awaiting a bond hearing, according to the release.
