A Dalton teacher has filed a lawsuit against Gov. Nathan Deal, accusing officials of using misleading language on the charter school amendment on the ballot days before early voting ends.
In the lawsuit, filed Monday, Beverly Hedges and an Atlanta reverend, Timothy McDonald, ask the state to correct the ballot language to "provide voters with accurate and non-deceptive language" regarding the amendment.
On the November ballot, the preamble for the amendment says: "Provides for improving student achievement and parental involvement through more public charter school options."
The amendment, which has had bipartisan support and opposition, will create a state agency called the Charter School Commission that will have the authority to override local school boards to create charter schools.
