Two holiday market fundraisers scheduled this Saturday

As East Brainerd traffic begins to intensify around the mall and the lines at stores get longer than normal, Lee Highway's Scenic City Dance Center is offering a holiday shopping alternative.

Saturday, Nov. 10 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., the dance center located at 6435 Lee Highway is hosting a 25-vendor holiday market.

photo Yoga East, at 7633 East Brainerd Road, Suite 109, is hosting its inaugural Holiday Market Saturday, Nov. 10 from 3-7 p.m. at the studio. The market will feature the talents of the studio's clients, local artists and businesses and will include items such as handmade yoga socks, leg warmers, scarves, embellished hula hoops, beautiful handmade jewelry and bath salts. Also featured will be Pampered Chef, Silpada Jewelry, Premier Jewelry and Sensi Candles along with chair massages and massage gift certificates. The studio will also be offering 10 percent off all Yoga East Boutique items and class packages that day. There will be free hot cider, cookies and other treats for participants. "We have so many talented clients," said Yoga East owner Becky Byrns. "The market is an offering for the community and it's also fun for us." "It's going to be a full holiday shopping event for people to get ahead on holiday shopping," said event organizer Michele Tinsley, the mother of two Scenic City Dance Company members. "We have a wide variety of vendors, from Thirty-One Gifts with tote bags to Tupperware and jewelry."

The market event will also feature around $700 in door prizes, a professional DJ and a bake sale. Proceeds from the event will benefit Scenic City Dance Company to help offset costs for costumes and competition fees.

"It's always important for the community to support the arts," said Tinsley. "In this case, dance gives the girls something positive to do and a way to express themselves and represent the community in a positive way."

For girls like her daughter who plan to make dance their future career, support from the community is especially important, she said. The dance company also works to give back by performing at community events and further integrating itself into the East Hamilton community.

But mostly, the event will just be a fun day.

"I think we're going to have a really fun, festive atmosphere with lots of exciting vendors and people," said Tinsley.
