Terry SaxtonMan indicted on murder counts
RINGGOLD, Ga. - A Ringgold man has been indicted on multiple murder charges, accused of beating his girlfriend to death.
Terry Saxton, who told police he found his girlfriend, Vicki Lacombe, 55, dead at the stairway of their apartment on July 9, later was charged in her death. Lacombe, who is from Canton, Ga., had broken bones and a head injury, authorities said.
A Catoosa County grand jury indicted 50-year-old Saxton on Wednesday on malice murder, two counts of felony murder and two counts of aggravated assault.
Nonprofit heads charged in theft
KINGSTON, Tenn. - Indictments have been handed down in Kingston in the wake of a state audit that concluded the former heads of a nonprofit organization misused grant money and helped themselves to illegal bonuses.
The audit also found more than $39,000 in unauthorized charges to the credit card of the agency, Community Health Network Inc.
The agency began in 2002 to link doctors in rural areas through online video to specialists at major medical centers.
The Knoxville News Sentinel reported former CEO Keith Williams was indicted Monday by a Roane County grand jury on a charge of theft above $60,000. Former assistant director Paul Monroe was indicted on a charge of theft above $10,000.
Manager vows to stop rave
DAWSONVILLE, Ga. - The manager of a resort in the North Georgia mountains says he's trying to keep thousands of young people from showing up for a rave party, vowing that his property "will not become a mini-Woodstock."
Edwin Alexander said he's trying to get the word out that what has been billed as "the biggest rave/house party of the year" won't take place at the Jackson Lake House Estate in Dawson County.
Alexander told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he was led to believe there would be a gathering of no more than 12 people when a man signed a lease to rent the property for late October. Alexander said he later discovered promotions for the rave on a Facebook page, where 2,800 people said they planned to attend.
Poachers warned at deer season
ATLANTA - Georgia wildlife authorities are warning against poaching ahead of the start of deer hunting season.
Gov. Nathan Deal has signed a proclamation declaring Saturday as "Turn In Poachers Day." It coincides with the start of the firearms deer hunt in Georgia.
Officials at the Department of Natural Resources say those reporting poaching should collect, if possible, information to describe the violation, the violator, when it happened and the vehicle the poacher was driving.
