Tennessee woman recovering after toddler shot her

HUNTINGDON, Tenn. - A Carroll County sheriff's investigation will be sent to the district attorney after a toddler shot and wounded his mother with a handgun.

According to The Jackson Sun, Sheriff Andy Dickson said 22-year-old Re'kia Kidd shot in the abdomen Sunday. The sheriff said Kidd's partner, Jamal Gray, later told authorities Kidd was in fair condition after surgery at the Regional Medical Center in Memphis.

Gray said he sleeps with the 9 mm Glock under his pillow and usually locks it up during the day. But on Sunday, Kidd's 2-year-old son found it and picked it up, causing it to discharge.

The boy and a 3-week-old baby were not wounded. The Children's Services Department was called to look into the children's welfare.
