National Weather Service records say the average high for Aug. 16 in the Scenic City is 90 degrees, exactly where temperatures peaked one year ago on the day. The highest recorded temperature on Aug. 16 was 104 degrees in 2007.
Friday's high peak, reached at 2:40 p.m., was 17 degrees below average.
Temperatures reached their lowest point at 1:22 a.m. Friday, dipping to 66 degrees. The average low for the day is 70, and the record low was 57, recorded in 1992.
Atlanta temperatures peaked Friday at only 67 degrees around 3:30 p.m., according to weather service data. The city's normal Aug. 16 high is 88 degrees.
Earlier in the week, Barys advised that August would see lower-than-average temperatures in the tri-state area because of an unusual jet stream positioning and a lot of moisture in the ground and air.
