Handcuffed Georgia woman steals patrol car, at large

UNION CITY, Ga. - Police in Union City say they're searching for a woman who was handcuffed when she stole a patrol car.

Authorities say the woman was sitting in the back seat of the patrol car early Tuesday morning when she was able to climb into the front and flee in the vehicle.

Union City police spokeswoman Gloria Hodgson says the woman was being arrested for bank card fraud and was able to reposition her hands while the responding officer was collecting evidence and information.

The woman was able to pry open the partition separating the front and back seats and fled.

Police say she drove north on Interstate 85 to Interstate 285 and fled on foot after she crashed the car.

Union City is about 17 miles southeast of downtown Atlanta.
