The meeting will be from 10 a.m. to noon at the Eastgate Town Center.

Tennessee Health Care Campaign board member Katherlyn Geter will talk about the act and how local residents can apply, according to a news release. The nonprofit organization advocates for universal coverage. Geter also is regional coordinator for the Southeast Health Care Insurance Assistance Program, which provides information and advocacy about Medicare.

The health care reform act aims to improve access to health care through a variety of reforms, including mandatory health insurance through the private sector, government-managed insurance exchanges or state Medicaid programs.

Enrollment will begin Oct. 31 for insurance coverage beginning Jan. 1, 2014. Low- and middle-income people will be eligible for tax credits or subsidies to help pay for coverage.
