Girl , 9, killed in I-24 wreck

An early-morning, single-vehicle wreck on eastbound Interstate 24 killed a 9-year-old girl, unidentified as of Friday night, according to Chattanooga police.

The girl was reportedly not wearing a seat belt at the time of the wreck. According to a Chattanooga police news release, an SUV struck the concrete divider at 4:22 a.m. Friday and overturned, throwing the 9-year-old from the car. She suffered serious injuries from the collision and died at an area hospital, where the vehicle occupants were taken for treatment, the release stated.

She was one of five occupants of the vehicle, according to the release, The other four occupants of the vehicle are in stable condition. Chattanooga police did not release any information Friday night regarding the identities of the other four occupants of the vehicle.

Of the five occupants, two were adults and three were children.
