A 20-year-old woman has been taken to Erlanger hospital after being shot in what a witness called a drive-by shooting shortly after 6 p.m.

Chattanooga police are on the scene but have released no information.

A witness said the woman was in a car when a cream-colored Toyota with two men in it approached. The witness said the driver fired into the woman's car and she was struck twice. Police could not immediately confirm the witness' statement.

The site is off Wilcox Avenue near Avondale Elementary School.

Shortly after the shooting, Chattanooga police stopped a white Mustang with two men inside and recovered two weapons, but it wasn't known if the stop was related to the shooting.
