North Georgia teacher faces drug charges after teen's death

WINDER, Ga. - A middle school teacher is facing charges after police say she sold drugs to an 18- year-old friend who died the next day.

WXIA-TV reports that the teenager died after taking prescription drugs provided to her by Emily Smith, a sixth-grade math teacher. Evidence of the transaction was found on the teen's cell phone, which led back to Smith.

The 37-year-old teacher has not been charged in the death of the young woman. Smith is no longer employed by the school system. She is free on $8,000 bond.

The Barrow County sheriff is looking for a second suspect in the drug transaction.
