NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Severe thunderstorms are possible across Tennessee as warm air is chased by a cold front.

The National Weather Service forecast a 50 percent chance of thunderstorms in the Memphis area today. In Nashville, thunderstorms were a certainty with a 100 percent chance forecast for Monday and 60 percent for Monday night. Chattanooga was rated as 90 percent likely to receive thunderstorms today and showers tonight. The same chances are forecast for Knoxville and the Tri-Cities.

Rain would be welcome south of Knoxville, where firefighters outside Pigeon Forge are battling a massive fire that has destroyed a number of rental units at the Black Bear Ridge Resort.

Cooler weather at midweek could bring a chance of mixed rain and snow in some areas of the state.
