Football player shot outside metro Atlanta school

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. - A high school football player is recovering from a gunshot wound after being hit by gunfire during a fight involving other people on the campus.

DeKalb County school police say the player was at Stephenson High School east of Atlanta for a team meeting Sunday afternoon.

Horace Dunson, athletics director for DeKalb County schools, says a fight broke out in the parking lot involving teenagers who are not Stephenson students.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the player was shot in the abdomen and taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released.

Dunson said school system police were investigating whether the fight was related to an earlier dispute between a Stephenson student and the other group of teenagers, but did not involve the athlete who was shot.
