Tornado confirmed in Sumner County

PORTLAND, Tenn. - The National Weather Service confirms that a tornado touched down in Middle Tennessee, causing some damage to buildings.

A damage assessment team surveyed damage in Sumner County and confirmed an EF-0 tornado, the weakest classification, with winds of up to about 70 mph touched down in Portland Sunday night. The weather service reports the twister tore the roof off the fire hall in Portland and caused minor damage to a church.

The team was continuing its survey this afternoon.
