Tire plant to bring more than 300 jobs to Georgia

MACON, Ga. - A tire company is expected to bring more than 300 jobs to central Georgia.

The Telegraph reports that the Kumho Tire facility in Bibb County represents a $225 million investment for the state.

Pat Topping, senior vice president of Macon Economic Development Commission, told the Macon newspaper that plans for the plant are moving forward and more information would be officially announced this week. Officials said the project had been on hold for five years because of difficult economic conditions.

The plant is expected to be about 1 million square feet. When first announced in January 2008, company officials estimated it would take about 18 months to begin production from the time construction started.

Topping said the workers would be hired in 2016 and 2017.
