2 businesses on Brainerd Road gone; one to come

The Brained neighborhood might be missing Out of the Blue Cafe after its recent closing, but the 3230 Brainerd Road location will only be vacant for a short time after its estate sale this past weekend.

The storefront will welcome a yoga studio helmed by ClearSpring Yoga's Kim Eisendorfer and will add a juice bar in later months.

Out of the Blue Cafe was a community staple, said Christi Homar, who owns Dwelling, a furniture consignment store located across the street, and lives in the area.

"You know we'll miss them. She brought great people into the community and she worked so hard, so I'm happy that she's able to go out and enjoy life," Homar said in regards to former Out of the Blue owner Peggy Roselle.

Another Brainerd Road business, Mocha, has closed down its location just two blocks away as the business prepares to move downtown. The bar and restaurant venue is moving to Broad Street next to Sugar's this month.

The absence of the two tenants will mean the absence of some of the neighborhood's regulars, Homar added.

"They both brought people in, just like we send people [for business] there," she said. "They were a part of the community and a part of this neat neighborhood and we try to support everyone."

Homar said she is happy to have a yoga studio and juice bar going in across the street from her business, but said she didn't know what, if anything, would go into Mocha's old location.

"Everything changes eventually and it's good that we're at least filling a space and getting something new," she said.

In terms of square footage, the two were some of the small business district's largest businesses.
