EPB warns area consumers about telephone scam

The EPB has warned area consumers that a telephone scam has been reported in the area with customers being called and asked to buy a prepaid debit card as a means of avoiding having their power discontinued.

A release from the EPB says those called are asked to buy a reloadable debit card and then call back with the account number so as to avoid having their power disconnected.

"This is a scam," the EPB said in a release. "EPB never calls customers asking for payments to be made with prepaid debit cards."

The EPB has asked that anyone receiving such a call should report the incident at (423) 648-1372.
