Hamilton County's jobless rate for August drops to 8.2 percent

Hamilton County's unemployment rate in August dropped three-tenths of a percent from the previous month, according to information released by the Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development.

The August rate for Hamilton County was 8.2 percent vs. 8.5 percent in July.

The department said Davidson County's rate of 6.9 percent was the lowest of major metro areas in the state, though it was up from 6.7 percent in July. Knox County's rate in August stayed at seven percent while Shelby County's jobless rate for August was 9.7 percent, down from 9.8 percent in July.

The rates in 77 counties in the state were down in August from the preceding month.
