A fire destroyed a home in the Ooltewah area tonight.

At 7:45 p.m., a 9-1-1 call was received from the homeowner, Angela Edwards, of a fire in her garage located at 8019 Bork Memorial Drive, according to spokeswoman Amy Maxwell. The Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department responded and arrived on the scene reporting fire showing in the garage and attic area.

Once all occupants were accounted for, firefighters worked quickly to get the large house fire under control, Maxwell said.

Tri-Community VFD Chief Steve Wright reported the fire started in the garage and spread quickly throughout the attic area which caught the entire roof line and house on fire. The house was a total loss. No injuries were reported but Hamilton County EMS was on the scene for any potential injuries, Maxwell said.

Edwards said she was home cooking when they heard a popping noise coming from outside the house. When they went outside to investigate the noise, they found the garage on fire.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and will be under investigation by the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office. The Edwards family was insured and will be staying with relatives.
