Couple makes second $1 million gift to University of Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - A Florida couple has made a second donation of $1 million to help defray debt for students at the University of Alabama.

The latest donation from Hugh Culverhouse Jr. and his wife Eliza will go to a Culverhouse student assistance scholarship that started last year.

Six students at Alabama's Culverhouse College of Commerce were selected last fall as Culverhouse Scholars, and additional scholarships will be made available with the addition of the additional money.

Students receive scholarships to pay college debt.

The business college in Tuscaloosa is named for Culverhouse's late father, Alabama alumnus Hugh Culverhouse Sr.

The elder Culverhouse was the longtime owner of the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His son is an attorney and the chief executive of Palmer Ranch Holding, a planned community in Sarasota County, Fla.
