The Tennessee Valley Authority restarted its newest reactor at the Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant today after correcting a power problem that temporarily idled two recirculation pumps on Tuesday.

The Unit 3 reactor at TVA's biggest and oldest nuclear plant automatically shut down Tuesday morning when a power glitch briefly shut off recirculation pumps that move water through the reactor core. Feedwater pumps kept the water covering the nuclear fuel rods and there was no danger from the incident, TVA spokesman Jim Hopson said.

TVA investigated the incident, corrected the problem and resumed power generation today, Hopson said.

TVA reported the scram to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, but it did not constitute any type of emergency event, according to the NRC.
