MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Murfreesboro Police Department says a Rutherford County Schools teacher has been accused of driving under the influence.

The Daily News Journal reports 45-year-old James Faulkner was arrested Sunday after a motor vehicle crash. When police arrived, they say they smelled alcohol coming from the vehicle.

A police report says Faulkner admitted to consuming five to six beers and failed a field sobriety test. There was also a cooler with beer cans in it in the vehicle.

Faulkner was charged with driving under the influence and for having an open container. He was taken to the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center and bonded out.

It is unclear if Faulkner will face disciplinary measures from the school or if he has a lawyer.
