A resolution to enter an agreement with River City Company to market the county's Mayfield Annex has died for lack of a resolution. Commissioners had concerns about whether a licensed real estate agent should be involved in the deal.

The county's aim is to vacate the annex at 123 East 7th Street and let River City Co. redevelop and market the building.

But Chairman Jim Fields said he thought a licensed real estate agent had to be involved, according to state law.

Before the resolution died, Mayor Jim Coppinger asked that the measure be postponed until legal questions could be answered. Commissioner Greg Beck made a motion to table the item, but Chairman Jim Fields never acknowledged him. And no commissioner seconded Beck's motion.

Fields told Coppinger he could place the resolution on the commission's next agenda for consideration.
