Mentone woman killed by son in argument over grades

According to a release from the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office, Tyler Ryan Blansit, 22, confessed to authorities that he killed his mother, Sherry Ann Blansit, 45, after an argument over grades. Blansit said he struck his mother in the head, and in a release, authorities said that it appears Sherry Blansit died of blunt force trauma to the head. Upon the confession, the D.A. ordered that Tyler Blansit be arrested and charged with murder. He is currently at the DeKalb County Detention Center awaiting bond.

Sherry Blansit's body was transported to the Department of Forensic Science in Huntsville, Ala. for an autopsy.

DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris thanked the agencies that collaborated on the investigation, including the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office, the Mentone Police Department, the D.A.'s office, and the Department of Forensic Science at Jacksonville State University.

"I especially want to thank the Mentone Police Department for their assistance on this case throughout the night," Harris said. "I also want to thank the D.A.'s Office and the investigators from the Department of Forensic Science for coming to the scene and remaining with us until early this morning. Our thoughts and prayer go out to the family and friends during this tragic time."
