Chattanooga police say a 13-year-old boy is in the hospital this afternoon after he was accidentally shot.

Master Sgt. Ernest Craw said the shooting occurred at 2:21 p.m. in the 2600 block of E. 21st Street, off Dodds Avenue. Craw said the boy was shot near the right ear.

Paramedics rushed the boy to the hospital, but Craw was not sure what his condition was. He also said investigators were still determining whether someone fired at the boy or if he shot himself, or how he got his hands on the weapon. Family members were home at the time, Craw said.
