Two officers on leave following shooting that wounded suspect

Two Chattanooga Police Department officers have been placed on administrative leave after an incident in which a suspect was shot in the leg Saturday night.

The incident occurred after police received a call regarding a "disorder with weapon" in the 400 block of Tunnel Boulevard around 7:30 p.m., according to a news release.

The officers found a male suspect matching the description given by witnesses, who said they had seen him involved in an argument during which a firearm was displayed.

"Officers engaged with the suspect, shots were fired, and the male suspect sustained a gunshot to the leg," the release stated.

The suspect was transported by Hamilton County EMS to an area hospital with an injury that was not life-threatening.

The officers were placed on leave in accordance with CPD policy, and the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office will handle a criminal investigation.
