Victim killed in Saturday crash on Highway 58 identified

UPDATE: Chattanooga police have identified the person killed in a crash Saturday around 5:15 p.m. on State Highway 58.

The victim killed in the crash was identified as 64-year-old Karen Saxton, police said in a statement issued Sunday. The driver of the other car was identified as 21-year-old Allen Dickerson.

Upon arrival officers located the vehicles in the 5900 block of Highway 58.

Police said Saxton's vehicle was entering Highway 58 from Congress Lane, when it pulled into the path of Dickerson's vehicle and the two vehicles collided. Authorities are still investigating.

One person died in a fiery crash Saturday evening near Central High School after authorities believe they pulled their car out in front of another vehicle traveling north on Highway 58.

The other driver was taken to a hospital, but their condition is not known at this time. Neither driver has been identified.

Authorities believe the car pulled out from Congress Lane and caught on fire after being struck head-on shortly before 6 p.m., according to CPD Sgt. Justin Kilgore.

The fire burned the vehicle and nearby woods but has since been extinguished.

Highway 58 is closed in both directions at Congress Lane. Authorities believe there were only two people involved in the crash.

There are no known witnesses at this time.
