The Coast Guard Auxiliary is an organization consisting of approximately 30,000 volunteers, who patrol inland waterways and help keep boaters safe. The 1300 members of the Eighth District eastern Region -- in which Chattanooga is situated - are responsible for patrolling more than 8,000 miles of waterways, including the Tennessee River, the Cumberland River, the Ohio River and some of the Mississippi River.
