Bradley advertises for school board post

CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Bradley County is advertising for a county school board member to serve for two months.

A vacancy was created earlier this month with the death of 5th District board member Terry McGuire.

County Commissioner Jeff Yarber said Thursday that anyone interested should present a written request to the County Commission chairman before the next meeting on Sept. 7.

"Then we will go from there," Yarber said.

Yarber and Commissioner Bill Ledford, the two commissioners for District 5, will make the nomination for the commission's vote.

TO APPLYThose interested in serving a two-month term on the Bradley County Board of Education should send a letter to County Commission Chairman Louie Alford or Legislative Assistant Amy Moore at Bradley County Commission, P.O. Box 1167, Cleveland, TN, 37364, or e-mail to amoore@bradleyco.net.

Yarber said he does not know if any names were submitted after the legal advertisement was published Wednesday.

"A few people have shown an interest," he said.

The advertisement states that anyone interested can submit a request to the commission chairman or attend the meeting and submit names there. Whoever is appointed must live in the district.

The appointee will serve until the Nov. 2 election, when voters will chose either Rodney Keith Dillard or Jerry Johnson to serve the final two years of McGuire's term.
