CLEVELAND, Tenn.-Cleveland State Community College has scheduled its first Teaching Career Fair.
The event is for anyone interested in teaching as a career - even as a second career - who wants to know how to make that happen, said Jerry Faulkner, vice president for academic affairs at Cleveland State.
"This is the perfect time for them to come by, meet the dean and talk to the people in the department," he said in a news release. "Also, if they want to drop off a resume at that time, they can."
Faulkner said the fair also is supported by representatives of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Lee University and Bradley County Schools.
Valerie Rutledge, director of UTC's School of Education, praised the event.
While the two schools already have a relationship, with Cleveland State education students completing their four-year degrees at UTC, the career fair will appeal to the wider audience of those seeking careers within academia, she said.
"It is unique," Rutledge said. "It covers every aspect of teaching."
The Teaching Career Fair also will address educational benefits and opportunities available through military service, according to Faulkner. Representatives of the Tennessee National Guard will attend the event, he said.
Faulkner also said the school's Office of Veteran Affairs will provide information about the federally funded Troops To Teachers program, which offers stipends and bonuses for eligible military personnel willing to serve as educators in "high-need" school districts.
"From a college perspective, we can always use good instructors, and I feel like there's a lot of people out there who have always thought about teaching at a college but have never known how to go about it, so this is a way of giving them that information," Faulkner said.
"For those considering a career in education, this is the chance for them to get information about the education programs, as well," he said.
