A Fort Payne, Ala., man has been charged with sexually abusing a girl under 12 years old, officials said.

Brandon Daniel, 30, has been charged with first-degree rape and first-degree sexual abuse, DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris said.

Daniel's bond has been set at $100,000 and he is in the DeKalb County Jail, Harris said.

Apparently, the victim's mother had a relationship with Daniel in early 2011, Harris said.

The DeKalb County Sheriff's Office makes four to five arrests each year that involve minors being sexually assaulted by someone they know, sheriff's assistant Stanna Guice said.

"It's not uncommon to see these kind of reports," she said.

The assaults were reported to the sheriff's office Aug. 30 and investigated by the sheriff's office and other entities in the DeKalb County Multidisciplinary Child Abuse Investigative Team, Harris said.

"This arrest is an example of the team successfully working together as one unit to fulfill its mission, which is to assist juvenile sexual and physical assault victims," Harris said.
