Vulcan Materials Co. has donated an easement and city and county officials have signed off on the transfer of the right-of-way that now allows construction to begin on the segment of the Tennessee Riverwalk to St. Elmo.

"This is an excellent example of responsible corporate citizenship and reflective of Vulcan's corporate and philanthropic ideals of leadership, stewardship, and community involvement," Hamilton County Mayor Jim Coppinger said.

The easement from Vulcan will open the way for construction of about 1,000 feet of the Riverwalk, which will lead to it being widened to 12 feet from Ross's Landing to the foot of Lookout Mountain, a news release said.
