Chattanooga police are looking for a man previously imprisoned for attempted murder and now believed to have committed assault and leaving the scene of a traffic accident.

On May 4 about 11 p.m., Jerry Wayne Alexander hit a vehicle in a parking lot at 2400 Glass St. in Chattanooga and tried to flee, police spokesman Daniel Jones said in a news release.

When officers arrived to issue a citation, Alexander said, "You better get more boys, and I'll kill you like I tried to kill another officer," the statement added.

Alexander was arrested in 1996 for firing an assault rifle at Chattanooga police, and served eight years of a 12-year sentence for attempted murder.

Alexander is described as 40, black, 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing 220 pounds. His last known address is 2707 N. Chamberlain Ave. in Chattanooga.
