Chattanoogan Vanessa Calloway wins trip to Jamaica by being an extra for '42'

Former Chattanoogan Vanessa Calloway drove up from her home in Augusta, Ga., to revisit Engel Stadium and be a part of "42" and won a trip to Jamaica.

As an incentive to get people to be extras in the film, Southern Hollywood Events has given away a variety of prizes all week to the unpaid extras. Those who showed up for a second day were eligible for the trip to Sunset Beach Resort & Spa in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Marsha Rosner, owner of Rosner Travels, pulled Calloway's winning tickets.

"My husband will be pleased," Calloway said.

She took two weeks off from work to be a part of the movie "to have fun and have an experience," she said. "My father used to bring me here. I saw they were filming this in my hometown and I turn 51 next Tuesday, so I wanted to do this."

Rosner has also arranged a trip to Palace Resorts in Cancun, Mexico, which will be raffled off next week.

"42" is a feature film about Jackie Robinson's inaugural year as the first black baseball player in the major leagues. The move stars Chadwick Boseman as Robinson and Harrison Ford as Brooklyn Dodger general manager Branch Rickey. Filming at Engel Stadium continues Tuesday-Friday and June 4 and 6.

Trey Toler with Southern Hollywood Events, who has served as emcee for the giveaways, said he has raffled off several iPads, iPod Shuffles, Apple TVs, autographed T-shirts, baseballs and even a rug.

"Plus, the players, or the actors playing the players, have mingled and talked with the extras just to keep things interesting," Toler said.
