Councilwoman Deborah Scott announced today she would not seek the District 1 City Council seat for a second term.

Scott said in a news release her decision was made because of personal reasons and the enormous amount of time it takes for the job. She said she spent 60 to 80 hours a week working as a council member.

"I have decided not to seek re-election to City Council next term," Scott wrote. "My Mother will turn 84 soon and I need a little more family time. I hope to assist citizen candidates who embrace transparency, demonstrate accountability and are willing to champion responsible fiscal policies. I pray others will do the same."

District 1 encompasses Lookout Valley and most of the western portion of Chattanooga.
