A VW 'preview' -- sort of

You surely paid attention to the picture at the top of Page 1 of the Times Free Press on Wednesday, along with the headline saying, "A sneak peek at VW sedan."

Well, the photo showed recognizable doors -- but you couldn't tell much else about the car. In the picture, there were peculiarly disguised black front-and-back-end areas flanking the light-colored doors.

They were apparently "camouflaged" to avoid revealing exactly what the 2011 VW models will look like.

Evidently the car's look will remain something of a surprise until Chattanooga-made VWs begin rolling off production lines.

But what we do know is that the Chattanooga VW plant is getting ready. It is investing a billion dollars locally and will employ about 2,000 people in good local jobs.

With that welcome news in mind, we can wait, somewhat patiently, to see the first new Chattanooga VWs roll off the production line -- not many months away.
