A clearer picture of 2012

We have just passed the Fourth of July. That's a "hot time" for political candidates to be out and among prospective voters, putting their best feet forward. A lot of them did just that last weekend.

And the differences between President Barack Obama and his GOP challengers are becoming clearer.

Some of the prominent Republican hopefuls include Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich, Ron Paul, Tim Pawlenty and Mitt Romney. Some other high-profile figures are in the wings, weighing their election chances. But all of them plainly espouse a more conservative, lower-spending, lower-taxing government than that espoused by Obama.

Don't we need the best of national leadership in these challenging times? And doesn't our extremely high unemployment after nearly three years of Obama's spending initiatives demonstrate clearly that we have to have a change in leadership?

Still, it remains to be seen who on the Republican side will catch fire with voters. The primaries and the November 2012 election will be upon us soon. A "course correction" is needed in our country, but it is uncertain which GOP hopeful has the best chance to win next year and bring that about.
