Augusta Christian School quarterback Tyler Roberson was one of six recruits to make official visits to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga over the weekend. On Sunday morning he informed the coaches that he wanted to play for the Mocs, becoming UTC's fifth commitment.

"Chattanooga, this city itself is beautiful, and the coaching staff, you can just tell they all get along and they have a good time up there," he said. "I'd already been really interested in UTC, so this morning I'd been praying about it and it seemed like the right fit.

"This weekend definitely put me over the top with my decision."

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Roberson led Augusta Christian, which is located in Martinez, Ga., but plays in the South Carolina Independent School Association, to the Class AAA state championship this season.

While helping the Lions go 13-0, Roberson threw for more than 2,000 yards and rushed for more than 1,000. He ran for 24 touchdowns and threw for 18.

"It was huge and definitely the highlight of my life so far," Roberson said of his senior season and winning a state championship.

He said the Mocs' spread offense is very similar to what he ran at Augusta Christian.

"We basically run almost the exact same thing," he said.

Among the other players that visited were offensive line commitments Hunter Townson of Ider (Ala.) High School, who will enroll in January, and Rhea County High School's Jacob Revis.

UTC also has commitments from Brentwood High School lineman Logan Teichmann and Lovejoy (Ga.) High School quarterback Alejandro Bennifield, whose team advanced to the semifinals of the Class AAAAAA playoffs on Friday.
