Czechner no-hitter paces Lady Tigers

LSU signee Ashley Czechner pitched a five-inning no-hitter with nine strikeouts and Janna Scheff added her 20th win of the season as Chattanooga State's No. 1-ranked junior college softball team beat visiting Columbia State 8-0 and 6-0 on Saturday. Czechner is 26-2.

Marina Wilkerson homered in each game, giving her 11 for the season, and Chelsea Burgess was 3-for-4 in game two with her ninth homer for the Lady Tigers (49-3, 14-0). Andrea Dalton was 5-for-7 and Lacye Walker was 4-for-6 in the doubleheader, and Shelby Johnson stole two bases, resetting her school record to 74 (in 75 attempts). The team has 196 steals.

• Columbia State 10-8, Cleveland State 2-0: At Cleveland, the Lady Cougars were swept after winning two extra-inning TCCAA games Friday against Jackson State, 2-1 and 3-2. Shelby Boyd homered three times for the Lady Chargers, and Shelby Hanson had a two-run double for Cleveland State (17-17, 7-7).

Maura Ditto's two RBI doubles decided Friday's opener as Meghan Smith pitched an eight-inning four-hitter with 15 strikeouts. Casey Griffin's double after an error and a Kenzie Fish single tied the second game in the seventh inning, and Ditto singled and scored the winner in the eighth on Halen Weeks' single after a Hanson sacrifice bunt. Tiffany Keck accounted for all of Jackson State's runs with a homer in each game.

• Lee 8-7, Emmanuel 0-4: At Cleveland, Brittany Balough (21-2) pitched a two-hitter and Caitlin Beshears saved a win for Jessa Watts (15-4) as the NAIA's 12th-ranked Lady Flames swept the SSAC games. Jennifer Ringle was 5-for-8 and Kelsey Barnes had three RBIs in game two after going 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI in the opener, when Savanna Bell was 2-for-3 with three runs and Ana Coscorrosa and Charlie Wooden each was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Lee (41-7, 18-3). Dezirae Parsons also was 2-for-3 in that game, with an RBI, and Nicole Rodriguez matched that in game two.

Samantha Rao was 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs for Emmanuel (20-21, 4-15) in game two.

• Covenant 9-5, Salem 3-6: At Winston-Salem, N.C., Courtney Wagoner batted in three runs in the Great South Athletic Conference win for Covenant and walked three times and scored twice in the loss. Jenni Jobe and Christine Core took turns going 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs and Morgan Booker was 2-for-4 with two RBIs in game one for the Lady Scots (19-14, 7-6).

• Centre 27-12, Sewanee 9-3: At Sewanee, the Tigers fell to 5-16 overall and 0-10 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. In the first loss, though, Kayla Sewell, Carly Warfield and Sarah Anne Hamilton each was 2-for-3 for Sewanee, Sewell with three RBIs and Hamilton with a two-run homer. Codi Ellis was 2-for-3 and Warfield had the RBI in game two.
