Bo Davis returning to Alabama coach Nick Saban's football staff

Bo Davis isn't the first coach to rejoin Nick Saban's football staff at Alabama.

Just the latest.

Davis, who was Alabama's defensive line coach from 2007 to 2010, spent the past three seasons at Texas and was introduced last week as the new defensive line coach at Southern California. There was not an official announcement from Alabama as of Monday night, but new USC coach Steve Sarkisian said Davis departed for family reasons.

"We wish Bo and his family the best of luck," Sarkisian said in a released statement. "He is a good coach. We will move forward and find a great coach for our defensive line."

The 42-year-old Davis is a former LSU defensive lineman who was an assistant under Saban with LSU and the Miami Dolphins before coming to Tuscaloosa. In his first stint with the Crimson Tide, Davis helped develop Terrence Cody, a second-round NFL draft pick in 2010, and Marcell Dareus, a first-round pick in 2011.

Alabama outside linebackers coach Lance Thompson worked under Saban during the 2007 and '08 seasons, spent the next three years at Tennessee and returned to the Tide before the 2012 season. Receivers coach Billy Napier (from Murray County in Georgia) was an offensive analyst at Alabama in 2011 before becoming Colorado State's quarterbacks coach in 2012 and then getting rehired by Saban.

Davis fills the vacancy held by Chris Rumph, who worked the 2011-13 seasons before leaving this past weekend for the opening Davis created at Texas.
