UTC Mocs logoThe University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football team's wave of recruiting momentum continued Friday with the fourth commitment in five days. Will Young, a 6-foot-2, 196-pound receiver from Mobile's McGill-Toolen Catholic School, is the Mocs' 15th commitment for this class and was the second prospect in as many days to choose UTC over offers from multiple FBS programs.
Young, who helped the Yellow Jackets reach Alabama's Class 6A semifinals, also had scholarship offers from Army, Navy, Arkansas State, Jacksonville State and Texas State. Vanderbilt also recruited him before coach James Franklin left for Penn State.
"He's the prototype big, physical receiver who can stretch the field vertically and is also fearless across the middle," McGill-Toolen coach Bart Sessions said. "He'll make the tough catch in traffic and is a solid blocker and just an all-around hard worker.
"Off the field, Will is a very intelligent, good-character kid that you want to represent your program. He'll be a great addition to their program in a lot of ways."
A multisport star who also plays basketball and competes in the 400-meter dash, long jump and high jump, Young had 53 catches for 850 yards this past season.
"I had a great time on my visit, and I think I can come in and earn early playing time," said Young, who also has a 3.8 grade point average and plans to major in engineering. "I like the fact that it's an up-and-coming program. They won the conference last year, and it's exciting that their coaches have that mindset of playing for a national championship. I want to be a part of that."
